Panera
July 10, 2008 on 10:47 am | In Everything | 2 CommentsOk, so my current location does not have internet. I am but a rover in life (and countries) until grad school, so I deal with what I’m given. And right now, it’s internet at Panera.
This really makes my laptop ownership shine. I knew there was another reason for getting this other than showing movies at eikaiwa on it! I’m still half-heartedly searching for libraries with wireless, though honestly, the atmosphere here is nice. I feel so on top of things, and I feel far more productive when I know that I don’t have ALL DAY LONG to veg out in front of the internet. Having a GRE prep book and Japanese book on the table, graduate courses on the screen, while typing a message in Japanese must totally scream “she has a very interesting life!”.
Note that I didn’t say “veg out in front of the computer“. I still do that, though I’m watching drama, being artsy with my wacom tablet, and studying for the GRE.
And speaking of drama, I’m currently watching Zettai Kareshi (“Absolute Boyfriend”) and Karei Naru Ichizoku. One is about a robot that is to be a woman’s ideal lover. The other is about a powerful banking/iron works family during the 60′s (with Kimura Takuya!). One is a comedy. One is not. I’ll let you decide which.
…why does Panera need to close?!? Gotta go!
Two Years Ago…
July 3, 2008 on 1:48 pm | In Down Time | 3 CommentsTwo years ago, I wrote blogs worth reading.
This is what I found out just now as I read through the archives of my first few months of being in Japan. Things were lovely, and written with both humor and a slightly rose-colored hue! This was intentional at the time, and yet I’m still jealous when I read back on it. It’s like when I’ve looked at some of the art I created years ago and think to myself, “How did I DO that?!?”.
I was looking over them again because, while talking to the ALT who will be filling my position at the end of the month, I told him to read the first part of my blog to really get a feel of the place I lived. I mean, Yoshii-machi is so much more than just an inaka town, but where do you begin? It’s just as hard of a question to answer as “so, how was Japan?”.
I want to write posts like those again! But what made them what they were? Was it the pictures? The humor? The stories? Honestly, I think it’s the lack of weariness that began blanketing everything I wrote about after awhile. I slowly began to kindof hate my job, and it really affected this. Perhaps I need to do some practice happy-times blogging.
We’ll see!
