Dudes
April 2, 2009 on 5:35 am | In Everything | 2 CommentsAs I was researching a dead guy (for a St. Michael’s Cemetary project), I ran across a Pensacola history book that had this fine example of some hometown athletic badassness.
Pensacola’s baseball team, the Dudes, in the 1890′s
I need to get a better copy of this pic. For my wall, yo!
Yeah, This is a Filler
March 30, 2009 on 9:20 pm | In Everything | No CommentsI had a post mostly written up, then casually forgot about it in my drafts. So, until (if) I ever get around to posting it (which I probably won’t because then no one will see it in the archives), I’m putting this filler post in to occupy the March timeslot. Because it was the ONLY month I ever didn’t post in.
And I need that month in my archive lineup.
Like an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie.
I love those…
Seriously?!?
February 9, 2009 on 6:22 am | In Everything | No CommentsThe place I stay in now is a 3-bedroom duplex that I share with a married couple. They have the master bedroom, and I have the other two rooms (I have no use for two rooms, but that was the offer). When I moved in, I chose one for my bedroom and put most of the boxes in the other. For this reason, it took several days before I was actually in the room with the boxes with the door shut. So imagine my surprise when I closed it one day, only to find a beautiful example of the finest in head shop artwork attached to the back!
Get it? The Habbit?? Hahhah! Play on words! GOD this cracks me up!!!!
…
……
*sigh*
So I took it down.
An Incomplete No More!…Hopefully Next Week…
January 17, 2009 on 6:44 am | In Everything, grad school | No CommentsI got the OK from last semester’s teacher to turn in my final assignment (which will end my “incomplete”) next week, and I once again sigh a breath of relief. I had begun worrying that the incomplete would turn into an F while I wasn’t looking, and now with a deadline in my mind, I hope that this weekend will be fruitful, bearing many pages of informative…information about American foreign policy.
Yar.
That’s about it.
Oh yeah, and I went to a Mexican restaurant last night and it was tasty. Because I’ve been living off of a bag of mini carrots, apples, and handouts. Today’s handouts were an apple and a bag of popcorn that maaay have burned to coal blackness in the middle, but it was sooo good… Now my carrel smells like char.
Avatar, Anyone?
January 14, 2009 on 6:32 am | In Everything | 6 CommentsNow that my hair color is back to a more natural me, I need to change that pesky avatar of mine. So I set out, searching for the perfect avatar. Finding several good sites, I thought I’d post the results here instead of being productive. Click on the images for a link to their respective sites.
Avatar #1

Which of the three do you prefer (I’m a big fan of the first and last, personally)? Let me know on the comments, and if you make any yourself, I wanna see~! …somehow…
Sushi Snob
December 3, 2008 on 9:02 pm | In Culture Shock!, Everything | 3 CommentsSo, I was at Wasabi for lunch today (my new favorite Japanese restaurant in Tulsa), and while sitting at the counter, a couple came in and sat next(ish) to me.
I first casually (and in a quiet voice) was all “hah, omg Friend Who I am Eating Sushi With, it’s funny how all people (I’ve seen, at least) not used to eating Japanese food think that rubbing their bamboo chopsticks together furiously is a perfectly acceptable thing to do in public (it’s not, btw…)!”. And I’m all casually going “harhar”, then look over again to see that the guy begins stirring his water with one of the 割り箸 (waribashi->disposable chopsticks), then starts stirring his green tea with it, THEN ADDS SACCHARINE TO THE TEAPOT!!!!!
…OK, I mean…yeach! I’m still horrified.
Anyways, horrified. And then their five orders of california rolls come on a giant plate. A veritable field of laid-out maki. And they’re picked up and put into the soy sauce dish. When they are properly soaked on the bottom, they are turned around so they can be soaked further. And then eaten.
Yes, I felt horrible for staring by the end, though the only other people to notice were probably the chefs, who were also watching (and probably very used to this sort of thing). I, however, am not, since my frame of memory reference is, by a vast majority, in Japan (five commas! I rock). As soon as they left, I was all
“blahblahblahgottablogaboutthisblahblahblah!”
And then we got some サービス (service->free food) that I thiiink might have originally been meant for the california roll guys, and thus the story (and the reason why I chose the counter) ends well.
And by “reason why I chose the counter”, I mean free サービス, not the chance to be an elitist sushi snob people watcher. I don’t need to sit at a counter to be that!
Dschinghis Khan
November 30, 2008 on 6:21 am | In Everything | 2 CommentsAnd that’s Youtube for you, teaching me history…music history, that is! (harhar)
It’s funny how you can go from this 1979 West German disco hit (with lyrics about Genghis’ exploits)…

To this, nearly 30 years later (with more motivational lyrics)!

I’m a 大ファン (dai-fan -> big fan) of the Berryz工房 version!
Schoolwork Before Holidays
November 30, 2008 on 5:12 am | In Everything | 1 CommentI hope everyone (who was celebrating it) had a great Thanksgiving!!!
I have found this holiday season to be obnoxious, though perhaps that has more to do with classes wrapping up and thinking about an imminent move (four weeks to go!). I’m BURIED in schoolwork, and find myself stuck in a conundrum. I want the next two weeks to speed by so classes (and finals) will be over with, but with all the work I have to do, I want those next two weeks to really draaag on. And when I mean “next two weeks”…I mean “one week”, ’cause that’s when these four papers are due. *crycry*
I’ll have a lovely little present, though, for finishing up the papers. After my presentation on Thursday, I’m heading out to a concert. Though I can no longer say that I’ve never been to a concert before this, I can say that it will be my first ever concert in English. While in Japan, I saw a Pillows concert, as well as the Berryz Koubo concert (ooh, talk about the freaky otaku…). I also saw Do As Infinity when they came to the US.
I made sure that it would be a good first “hey, I know what they’re saying!” concert, too (more on that later)!
Good times.
The New Site, The Old Site
November 18, 2008 on 6:33 pm | In Everything | 4 CommentsWhile it seems a bit frightful to consider, I’m in the process of designing a new website that is slated to be up and running by Jan 1st of 2009. Teasmartgarden will stay up, though I can’t say how updates will go. I have yet to really decide on that. One way or another, though, time will tell. This one is just totally reminding me of my time in Japan. And while this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, I feel like topics unrelated to my stay in Japan are deviating from the original purpose of the blog, and thusly, well…kindof lame and pitiful by comparison.
The whole purpose of the site is now complete. Perhaps I should put it to rest? Perhaps. I don’t know.
NaNoWriMo 始め!
November 2, 2008 on 4:09 am | In Everything | 5 CommentsGuess it’s time to start up NaNoWriMo.
Was originally just going to write the novel I’ve been fussing over in my head for the past decade or so, but have instead begun thinking that I should put my efforts into a slightly less, ah, emotionally invested story.
Then again, it will never get written if I keep fussing over the details.
And it already has an outline.
Good enough for me.
